Tyler Berl

Paramedic/Registered Nurse (Healthcare)

Tyler Berl’s career has been shaped by an early willingness to shoulder responsibility in moments of crisis. For more than fifteen years in Jacksonville, Florida, he has provided direct patient care in high-pressure medical environments where outcomes depend on speed, accuracy, and composure. Whether in an emergency department, ambulance, or transport unit, Tyler has consistently served as a steady clinical presence. He is trained and board-certified in emergency medicine, pediatrics, and tactical medicine, and he also practices as a registered nurse specializing in critical care transport.

From the start, Tyler gravitated toward roles that demanded accountability and precision. He learned quickly that he performs best when the stakes are high and the margin for error is small.

Becoming a Paramedic

In 2011, Tyler became a licensed paramedic, entering a profession that requires constant readiness and sound judgment under pressure. The role suited him immediately. Rather than being overwhelmed by chaotic scenes, he learned to prioritize, assess, and act decisively. Seeking exposure to complex medical cases, he joined Orange Park Medical Center, where he spent six years working in the Emergency Department before advancing to the trauma team.

The emergency department offered a relentless pace. Tyler routinely cared for patients experiencing traumatic injuries, cardiac arrests, strokes, severe infections, pediatric emergencies, and acute cardiac events. This environment sharpened his clinical instincts and reinforced the importance of structured decision-making during critical moments.

Reliability in the Trauma System

While working in emergency and trauma care, Tyler developed advanced clinical skills essential to life-saving medicine. He gained extensive experience in airway management, advanced cardiac life support, rapid sequence intubation, and ventilator management. These skills were applied repeatedly during resuscitations and high-risk interventions.

Equally important was Tyler’s reputation for dependability. As situations intensified, he remained focused and deliberate. During cardiac arrests, residents and attending physicians relied on him to execute complex tasks efficiently. His calm demeanor and consistency earned trust across care teams. Amid these intense experiences, Tyler also assisted with the delivery of three newborns, moments that offered balance and perspective in an otherwise demanding setting.

Shifting Focus to Pediatric Patients

After years in adult emergency care, Tyler intentionally expanded his clinical scope by transitioning into pediatric medicine. Pediatric patients present unique physiological considerations and heightened emotional needs. Tyler dedicated approximately one year to refining his pediatric assessment skills and communication approach, recognizing that adequate care for children requires both technical precision and emotional awareness.

This period strengthened his adaptability as a clinician and prepared him for increasingly complex responsibilities.

Critical Care on the Move

Tyler Berl later transitioned into inter-facility transport, where he managed critically ill patients during transfers between hospitals. These transports often involved ventilated patients, multiple intravenous medication infusions, and unstable vital signs, all within the confined space of an ambulance. Tyler became highly proficient in managing sedatives, vasopressors, and advanced respiratory support, making real-time adjustments to maintain hemodynamic stability.

This role required independence, vigilance, and the ability to anticipate complications before they developed, further refining his clinical judgment.

Navigating the COVID Era

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyler’s experience placed him among a limited number of paramedics in Jacksonville authorized to transport pediatric patients on high-flow nasal cannula systems such as the AirVo. These transports demanded advanced understanding of respiratory physiology, equipment performance, and patient response, often when alternative treatment options were limited.

Throughout this period, Tyler demonstrated resilience and adaptability, delivering high-quality care in an environment marked by uncertainty and rapid change.

Education Supporting Practice

In 2020, Tyler earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Public Health from the University of North Florida. This academic background enhanced his understanding of mental health, patient behavior, and population health trends. He incorporated these insights into his clinical practice, allowing him to approach care with greater awareness of psychological and social influences.

Determined to expand his role further, Tyler pursued nursing education at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He graduated in 2025 and became a Registered Nurse in July of that year, achieving a long-standing professional goal through years of sustained effort.

Putting Family First

After completing nursing school, Tyler deliberately chose to pause his professional career to support his family. He relocated temporarily to Marble Falls, Texas, to assist in caring for his grandmother during a severe health decline. This experience reinforced values that have guided his career from the beginning, including loyalty, responsibility, and service beyond professional duty.

Once his grandmother was safely relocated closer to family in Jacksonville, Tyler returned to Florida and resumed seeking opportunities as a paramedic or registered nurse.

Structure Beyond Medicine

Outside of healthcare, Tyler maintains a disciplined lifestyle centered on physical training and personal growth. He has trained consistently for nearly two decades, beginning with mixed martial arts and later transitioning to bodybuilding and athletic conditioning. He enjoys surfing, snowboarding, biking, spending time at the beach, and following professional sports, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, and UFC.

In recent years, Tyler has also deepened his spiritual life through regular church attendance, developing a faith practice that provides grounding and perspective. He currently resides in Jacksonville, where he owns a home and has established long-term stability.
